What to expect: The beige brick façade of the hotel is modern but the neighboring red-brick Victorian houses date from the 1890s. An automatic door opens into the beechwood reception with an open-plan bar/lounge leading off from here. The hotel caters to UK and EU tourist families and couples as well as occasional business travelers.

Amenity highlights: Free parking (up to 15 spaces on a first come-first served basis), a large, naturally-lit 24-hour bar with cigarette machine, fruit machines, plus Boddingtons and Stella Artois beers on tap.
