GENERAL INFORMATION :
What to expect: The hotel occupies a traditional Victorian townhouse, with a narrow façade. Visitors are greeted by the smell of fresh coffee, an open fire and large, brown-leather armchairs. Original wooden floorboards are partially exposed in the wide hallways. Guestrooms have high-speed Internet access and are decorated in warm colors and oak furniture.
Amenity highlights: Almost the entire ground floor is dedicated to the comfort and relaxation of the guests, with the reception tucked away to one side so that day-to-day hotel business doesn’t intrude. The Executive Lounge has the ambiance of a private club, with high-backed leather chairs and cozy alcoves. Sherlock’s Grill offers intimate dining, while the bar provides a vibrant alternative. Open fires create warmth throughout.
Insider tip: Despite the name, this is not a themed hotel. References to the great detective are tasteful and subtle: the brass bust behind the bar, a scientific jar in one of the hallways. However, guests will need their powers of deduction for the daily brainteaser, left on the pillow each morning by the maid.
PROPERTY AMINITIES :
The hotel’s seven meeting rooms cater for conferences for up to 100 people. Boardrooms can seat up to 26 in large, brown-leather chairs. The fitness center has sauna and steam room, cardio and resistance machines and free weights. In-room beauty treatments are also available.
ROOMS :
The hotel has 119 guestrooms decorated with oak furniture, knotted rugs, ivory cotton sheets, and red and brown fabrics. Almost half have wooden floorboards. Furnishings include a large armchair, footrest and bureau-style desk (with handy Underground map). All rooms have high-speed Internet access, US, UK and European power sockets, powerful hair dryer and an umbrella. Rustic-style bathrooms feature mosaic tiles, wooden furniture and raised-bowl basins.
DINING :
Sherlock’s Grill - Alcoves, soft chairs and an open fire provide intimacy and comfort at this 42-seat restaurant serving Modern British cuisine, cooked in a wood-fired oven. All ingredients are organic and the bread freshly made in-house. Lunch and dinner are served.
Executive Lounge - High-backed leather chairs, intimate alcoves and open fires give this lounge the ambiance of a private club. It serves drinks, snacks and meals all day. The tapas menu is a popular choice among guests.
