What to expect: Despite being situated in a row of traditional white Georgian townhouses, the Hempel’s interior is an original conceptual design. The sparse dreamlike lobby features a Portland stone floor, sunken seating areas with Indonesian ox cart tables, and two wide fireplaces. Simple natural colors and a lack of signs and door handles increase the sense of tranquility. Although commonly associated with the fashion and media industries, the hotel also attracts corporate and leisure guests.

Amenity highlights: The hotel’s design concept is a blend of ancient eastern influences and modern technology. An atrium provides natural light to the interior and suspended walls increase the feeling of space. Complimentary wireless Internet access means guests can stay connected throughout the hotel.

Insider tip: The Zen Garden, the large ornamental garden in front of the hotel, was used for the final wedding scene in the blockbuster UK film, Four Weddings and a Funeral. Owned by the hotel, this beautifully sculpted garden is for the exclusive use of guests.

It can cater from a private meal for two in the Jade Room, a private room next to The Restaurant, to a garden party for 400. No 17 is a ground floor meeting space with a terrace overlooking the Zen Garden.

ROOMS:
The Hempel Hotel, London, has 35 guestrooms, all of which are individually designed. All have natural colors, such as honey, beige, and flax, or darker shades, including dove gray, slate, and black. Handleless floor to ceiling doors lead to the bathrooms and wardrobes. Bathrooms are also individual and range from the traditional Japanese-style stone tub, to the sunken tub and the free-standing tub.

DINING:
The Restaurant - Situated in the basement and accessed by a dark low-lit Perspex staircase, the hotel’s restaurant is tucked away from London's hustle and bustle. Features a seasonal menu with the best of British and European hand-picked ingredients from independent suppliers. Signature dishes include Pan Fried Scottish Diver Scallops with Globe Artichoke Puree, Jerusalem Artichoke Foam, and Grain Mustard Jelly. Advance bookings recommended. Open 7 PM - 10 PM. Closed Sunday evenings.
